Everybody keeps talking about how college is the best part of one's life... I never knew how cool it was till today!!! In fact I had the most amazing time of my life, and even though I might fall asleep anytime on the keyboard... I told myself... I had to put down the whole gamut of emotions I went through today.

Well, you might be wondering why today of all days... what's so special about March 12th?!?! Don't worry people, no more suspense :) it was Waves '09 , the National Level Technical Symposium conducted by the Society of Electrical and Electronics Engineers of the College of Engineering, Guindy ... ( now that was a LONNNNNNNNNG sentence :D )

It's not that this is the first time we've had something like this... but this one was special. :D Started off with me trying to wear a saree and driving Mum up the wall :D Then some last minute rushing around getting all my things together and setting out for the hour long voyage to Guindy :D ( more on my expeditions in another post :D )

Change of scene : Vivekananda Auditorium or as we fondly call it... Vivek Audi :) That was the place of the famed "sorting" as one of my seniors put it. Now let me list out some of the stuff I learnt there:

  • Never let juniors rag you :) I know 2 of them who'd be reading this soon :P
  • Act mad ... but always ensure the door's closed :)
  • Scream all you want ... but check whether the mike's switched off :)
  • Go early for food... I've learnt that hunger can be an amazing teacher :)
  • Don't try dancing in high heels unless you've done it before... you could end up breaking your shoe's heel or much worse spraining your ankle... I ended up with the broken shoe heel :)
  • Always carry spare batteries for your camera.. and do check whether the spares work :D
More thoughts later... :)

Prove or Disprove

As the year rings in, it is also the time when the battle begins as KURUKSHETRA(the annual UNESCO accredited techno management fest of The College of Engineering,Guindy) unleashes its power. This time among loads of exciting events there has been a lotta buzz online as well.PROVE OR DISPROVE that debuts this year is one such online event which gets your better sense to light. Fallacies, science myths, superstitions have long since choked the existence of pure logic and scientific reasoning. With the likes of Aristotle, Plato, Copernicus, Newton, Einstein, Tesla, Faraday and many more having walked on this planet the time has come to erase and rewrite baseless beliefs into facts or simply trash it! To follow the path of these great men and further their unspoken mission, battle it out at www.kurukshetra.org.in (Events-> Trinity->Prove or Disprove)!
Celebrate the spirit of reasoning! :)

Swathi Meenakshi is the name :) And to all the people out there... BEWARE! :P This girl is going to win the Booker or the Pulitzer in the near future... I can bet my bottom dollar on that... ( pretty expensive now... considering the dollar's going at nearly 50 Rupees! ) Swathi , you'd better get me good returns on my investment :) Your first lesson on how to manage people's money ... :P

A brilliant mail that I just received!

We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better.
I'd really like for them to know about hand me down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meat loaf sandwiches. I really would.

I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated.
I hope you learn to make your own bed and mow the lawn and wash the car.
And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen.

It will be good if at least one time you can see puppies born and your old dog put to sleep.

I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in.

I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger brother/sister. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him.

When you want to see a movie and your little brother/sister wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him/her.
I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where you can do it safely.

On rainy days when you have to catch a ride, I hope you don't ask your driver to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom.

If you want a slingshot, I hope your Dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one.
I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books.

When you learn to use computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head.

I hope you get teased by your friends when you have your first crush on a boy\girl, and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what ivory soap tastes like.

May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole.

I don't care if you try a beer once, but I hope you don't like it.. And if a friend offers you dope or a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend.

I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your Grandma/Grandpa and go fishing with your Uncle.

May you feel sorrow at a funeral and joy during the holidays.

I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through your neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Hannukah/Christmas time when you give her a plaster mold of your hand.

These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. To me, it's the only way to appreciate life.
